colin was invited to give a talk in basel, switzerland this week. i was on fall break so i went along and we made a little vacation of it. we spent an afternoon in strasbourg (france) along the way and then visited basel, zurich, and lake lucerne. turns out, switzerland is amazing!

last night we went to an art exhibition in an old church where our friend vlado had a really amazing piece on display. he created a glass box for a wax mask with candles lit underneath. throughout the night, while we had couscous, meatballs, beer, and great company, the mask slowly melted away.
colin and i went to paris a few weekends ago with his mom, stepdad, and sister. this picture is from one of my favorite spots we visited, the luxembourg gardens (jardin du luxembourg).
i love summer. this morning i went for a run, got ready for work, rode my bike to the train station, put my stuff in a locker, and then went to the zoo to see the the big cats (grote katten) and the hippos (nijlpaarden = nile horses) before catching the train to tilburg. the membership that colin got me for my birthday lets me go in an hour before the official opening time so it was a nice and peaceful start to the day.
another weekend, another trip to amsterdam. here are colin and family having a beer by a canal…
it was a beautiful day in amsterdam!
our (i.e. colin’s) cherry tomatoes and snap peas are growing up!
